New drop-in homeless day center to open in North Portland, backed by Multnomah County

The center is located right in the heart of St. Johns, in the same building as Multnomah County’s North Portland Health Center. Neighbors are cautiously optimistic.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A new drop-in day center for homeless people in the heart of Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood will soon open its doors, Multnomah County officials previewed in a ribbon-cutting Wednesday.

“Every opening that we do adds critical response to our homelessness response system,” said Chair Jessica Vega Pederson said. “This center meets a great need for north Portland for many who are unsheltered.”

The location is a former Subway turned county health center just off North
