Kevin Kelsy Sale Makes Sense For The Timbers, But The Timing Could Hurt

There are transfers that make perfect sense when you look at the money and become considerably more complicated when you look at the standings. The Portland Timbers’ expected sale of Kevin Kelsy to Rangers falls squarely into that category.

Portland has reportedly agreed to sell the 22-year-old Venezuelan striker to Rangers for a club-record $13 million, with performance-based add-ons and a sell-on clause that could make the deal even more valuable. Kelsy still has to complete the final steps of the move, including his medical and visa process, so as of Thursday the transfer has not officially been announced as complete.
