PGE asks to raise rates on data centers this year — and drop them for everyone else

Portland General Electric filed for a 29% rate increase on large-load customers, but slight rate decreases for all other customers.

PORTLAND, Ore. — As it has every year in recent memory, Portland General Electric just filed for regulatory approval of new rates — but this filing may finally come as welcome news for the utility’s residential and commercial customers.

In a statement, PGE said that the new rate structure is in accordance with recent regulatory changes made by the Oregon Public Utilities Commission after lawmakers passed a bill requiring data centers to bear the full cost of their outsized impact on load growth.
