Thefts of copper from a traffic light contributed to a crash that killed a motorcyclist in December and left a stretch of I-84 in the dark earlier this year.
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Police Bureau announced a series of arrests Tuesday after a months-long investigation into widespread theft of copper wire throughout the metro area.
PPB’s East Precinct Neighborhood Response Team began investigating a spike in the thefts in May 2025, the agency said, working with communications company Lumen Technologies — formerly known as CenturyLink.
