PORTLAND, Ore. — Lawmakers in the Oregon Legislature continued to clash Monday over a controversial bill created to save the state’s ski resorts and other recreation operators from a surge in lawsuits and the rising insurance costs tied to them — costs that are directly affecting whether Oregonians can continue to afford outdoor recreation.
Business owners, nonprofits and local governments warned Monday that Senate Bill 1517 A as proposed could deepen an insurance crisis already straining the state’s outdoor economy instead of curtailing it.
