FCC chair backs Nexstar’s proposed acquisition of TEGNA after Trump’s public support

FCC Chair Brendan Carr’s announcement came just over a week after President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social backing the merger.

WASHINGTON — Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr said he “supports” the proposed Nexstar, TEGNA acquisition, which would exceed current broadcasting ownership caps. 

“I support that transaction,” Carr said about the multi-billion dollar proposal during a press conference Wednesday. “We’re going to be moving forward.”

His announcement came just over a week after President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social Feb. 7 to back the merger. He said it would increase competition with television networks.
