Neighbors donate money and help with chores after a third-generation farm lost about $250,000 in poultry.
NEHALEM, Ore. — On the Oregon coast, a third-generation farming family says it is humbled by the generosity of neighbors after losing about 5,000 chickens because of contaminated feed.
The Myers family said their fields near Nehalem were once filled with free-range chickens. Eggs from Lady B Farms made up nearly half of their business, along with cattle and dairy cows. Now, only about 30 chickens remain.
“I sort of froze. I was in shock, actually,” said Justin Myers, a farmer and co-owner.
