Portland moves to foreclose on list of blighted properties: ‘The beacon of bad behavior’

The sites up for sale have been covered in graffiti, strewn with trash, caught on fire, occupied by squatters or some combination of the above.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The city of Portland is moving to foreclose on eight vacant properties across the city, some of them after sitting for years unattended, trashed and attracting unwelcome visitors.

“These are generally a scourge on the neighborhood — they usually become quite the target and the beacon of bad behavior,” said Eric Zimmerman, Portland city councilor for District 4.

One blighted property on the list sits off Southeast Cesar Chavez Boulevard, covered in overgrown dried grass.
