‘United and ready to act’: 400 nurses at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center vote to authorize strike

The nurses are seeking fairer compensation, better health care options and a voice in issues such as patient care and working conditions.

GRESHAM, Ore. — Hundreds of registered nurses at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center have voted to authorize a strike, citing the need for better wages and working conditions, according to the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA). 

ONA is representing 400 nurses who say that after 21 months of bargaining, Legacy Health won’t address issues that frontline workers seek. 

They are asking for more representation in decision making regarding patient care and working conditions; competitive pay; affordable health care; protections against managers shortening shifts;
