Will new legislation help Oregon’s once-ground breaking psilocybin therapy thrive?

PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon made history as the first state to legalize supervised psilocybin therapy, but the groundbreaking industry is facing an unexpected challenge: hardly anyone is using it.

Despite the FDA hailing the fungus-derived psychedelic as a breakthrough treatment for depression, Oregon’s 25 licensed treatment centers are struggling to stay afloat. Since the program started two years ago, 124 facilitators had their licenses expire, and six surrendered their licenses.
