Oregon bill requires those buying nitrous oxide to show ID

A KGW investigation found a surge in dangerous cases involving nitrous oxide in Oregon, including a Gresham couple who were temporarily paralyzed.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon lawmakers passed legislation making it more difficult for minors to purchase nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. The bill requires anyone purchasing nitrous oxide canisters to show identification proving they are at least 18 years old.

“I just don’t think people even realize what this is or what it does or how easy it is to get it,” said Representative Emily McIntire, R-Klamath Falls, who sponsored House Bill 3447.
