Southwest Portlanders celebrated the Multnomah Days neighborhood parade and festival Saturday. Check out the photo gallery above, and read more about the event here.
Faith Cathcart strapped a GoPro camera inside a derby car at Saturday’s Adult Soap Box Derby, which is held annually in Mt. Tabor Park. Check it out. Also, Jamie Hale was on site Saturday talking with fans and derby teams. He has the stories behind several cars, including “Shame of Thrones” and a transgender Potato Head.
A 21-year-old woman was shot and killed Sunday morning in Eastwood Village Apartments in outer Southeast Portland. Anna Marum reports information from witnesses so far points to a gang-related shooting. A neighbor called the block an “ugly place to live.”
Three people were injured in a shooting downtown in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Again, Anna Marum reports preliminary information points to a gang-related shooting.
Kelly House reports the outside southbound lane of Highway 43 between S.W. Taylors Ferry Road and the Sellwood Bridge will continue to close on weekdays until 4 p.m. as crews continue building the new Sellwood Bridge. A northbound lane is also closed weekdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. just north and south of the bridge.
A student at Portland Community College born without a left hand is designing a 3D-printed prosthetic. He wants to make affordable, customizable prosthetic hands available for amputees and children with birth defects around the world.

Elizabeth Murray, who has photographed Monet’s Gardens in Giverny, France, for 30 years, will read from her new book about nurturing yourself as you would a garden on Aug. 25 at Annie Bloom’s Books in Southwest Portland.
