Yes, the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing are still happening February 4–20, despite the havoc wreaked by omicron. But the International Olympic Committee has landed on a “closed-loop system,” basically a Covid-era sports bubble. Additionally, athletes, coaches, and other staff members are required to be vaccinated and tested daily.
Team USA is still finalizing their roster based on qualifications results, but if you want a reason to be invested in the Olympics, here’s a small (but mighty!) list of locals vying for gold. We’ll update with accolades and the Paralympics roster as they come in.
