This story begins at the start of the 2015-16 NBA season. The Portland Trail Blazers roster has just been gutted. All-NBA selection LaMarcus Aldridge went to San Antonio in free agency. Wesley Matthew followed Aldridge to Texas to join the Dallas Mavericks following his torn Achilles, and Nicolas Batum cashed out on a max deal with the Charlotte Hornets. Fan-favorite Robin Lopez signed a lucrative one-year deal to link with the rebuilding New York Knicks.
