Grass fire near Salem contained, evacuations downgraded

SALEM, Oregon — A grass fire southwest of Salem forced evacuations of parts of Marion County Monday. Salem Fire has contained the grass fire and evacuation orders have been downgraded as of Monday evening. 

The south side of the 4000 to 4300 blocks of Vitae Springs Road, as well as South River Heights and River Haven roads, are under Level 2: ‘Be Set’ evacuation orders. 

The Red Cross has set up a temporary evacuation center at Crossler Middle School in Salem.

About 35 homes are impacted by the fire, according to the Emergency Preparedness Manager with the city of Salem.
