Hard work and community support helped the beloved amusement park survive the COVID shutdown, wildfires and a damaging ice storm.
TURNER, Ore. — South of Salem, just off Interstate 5 in Turner, Oregon, Humpty Dumpty sits atop a highway sign, beckoning passing cars into the Enchanted Forest, a roadside amusement park filled with fairy tales and nursery rhymes.
But Humpty Dumpty’s welcoming smile belies a troubled year for the park.
Inside, its creator, 91-year-old Roger Tofte, has been busy riding his moped from one trouble spot to the next, stopping to patch up cracks in the sidewalk with a bucket of cement.
